I'm in the process of re-wrapping and simplifying my stock front harness. I'm making an effort to make sure I know what each connector is for, and if I can/need to remove it. There are a few connectors that I was not able to identify, however and was hoping for some guidance. They are below. Also yes, I know there's paint on my harness. I painted my engine bay and was already planning on tearing into the harness, so didn't care about masking it:
This connector near the trailing coil. It's been jumpered ever since I bought the car. Something for the security system perhaps? These 2 connectors that straddle the trailing coil connector (the bullet and the spade) This connector that comes off the brake fluid level connector This connector that doesn't plug into anything. Clips into the bracket that holds the variable resistor Same thing on the driver's side. Clips onto the fuse box bracket. These two that hang out right below the fuse box. They've never been plugged into anything as long as I've had the car This long single spade that comes off the harness near the horn connectors Closeup of that connector
Updating again for anyone who may come across this thread in the future. After reading the wiring diagrams for a few hours, I was able to figure out what a few of the connectors are:
This goes to where the starter cut relay used to be. I guess previous owner deleted it at some point, which would make sense why the connector is jumpered. This plug on the passenger side and the accompanying one one the driver's side are for the AAS (auto adjusting suspension). My car is an 88 GTU, which was not optioned with the AAS. But, from what I understand, all manual S4's where pretty much wired the same, regardless of options. So these connectors are still here. Same AAS plug on driver's side. Fun fact, the B/R wire that goes to this plug comes on with IGN1. So, if you're needing a convenient source of switched ignition, here it is
