HELP, I was trying to free up my 5th and sixth ports...

The actuators are stuck half open, they have a little bit of freeplay, but they are stuck open. I was wondering how easy is it to swap in another set. I have an extra good set on my parts car. Whats the proper procedure to change them, or do you suggest i keep working at them, I ran out of daylight.

I was spraying white lithium grease on them and working them in and out, should I use WD-40 tomorrow?

Thanks,

-Ian

I did search, but didnt find anything of real value.

It depends on whats really stuck. You need to take the vacuum actuators off the engine and check them for free movement, then check the shafts that turn the ports. Usually the shafts are gunked up and can be cleaned by taking off their retainer plates and carefully wiggling them out of their bores, and then soak them in parts cleaner. If the ports themselves are stuck you might have to remove the upper and lower intake manifolds to get at them. The actuators each come off with 2 10mm nuts.

Thanks alot, it's the actuator rods that are gunked up, so I just unclip them, and wiggle them out?

exactly. theyre easy as hell to take off and shouldn't be more than a half hour job if you're not drinking and wrenching
Matt

if you have a haynes manual that explains it pretty well
