HELP!!Guru's, rotaryheads, Help me....
Hey people, I am in need of help, BAD. Please ANYONE that can help, please share.........about 3 weeks ago my great running 88 gxl with basic mods died out on me. I was sitting in a parking lot, not running(ran FINE that nite) went to start it...nothing ...whrrrrrrr pop pop..whrrr. I was like what the ****, its like its not getting fuel/spark. finally got it started and it ran like crap. no idle, sputtering, missing fire, and wanting to die really bad. I was like, what the hell it was fine 10 minutes ago! Limped it to my friends shop and left it for the nite. When I got time to look it over I found a few things, busted PD, dirty primarys, leading coil pack was out of ohm reading and that was it...nothing major really, compression was even good(stock motor 150k)..so I replaced the PD, cleaned the Injectors, and replaced the coil. FINALLY got it to start again, it was very hard, kept flooding itself and just not wanting to start. Got it to run, no idle.....did he same thing as before I replaced the parts. 2 weeks later I get more time to work on it. Took it all apart again, looked everything over, checked every plug, elec. part, sensor, injector impedence, reistance of everything....everything was fine. got it to start again....jumped to cold start idle!!! yea baby it was idleing....30 or so seconds...puh puh die. started up...running like **** again, no idle, missing, lack of power(took it around the block a few times to see how it ran)... it is getting spark, it is getting fuel, and air...Im not positive if they are in the correct "formulas"..but its there. I am soo stranded right now, I just can't figure out what it is! I have to leave for school in 4 days...and my car is down and out. Please, if you can, or know anyone else, forum or not, please, I need some assistance, ideas, something! I know my basic rotary tech...I know my hondas, nissans, mazdas, toyotas....this has got me guessing like no other. thanks alot for anything you can help with. If someone gives me the right idea/tells me what it might be, i will check and try ANYTHING, and would even consider a reward for helping me...Help me get my baby on the road again.
geez..use paragraphs...
maybe its time for a streetport?
edit:after actually reading the whole thing....
sounds like you might have a vacuum leak. checked the timing??

when it started did it have alotta smoke? smells rich or lean?
i would check
1. AFM
2. Loose wires and hoses.
3. take out your plugs and see if they are soaked? if so ..leaky injectors....do a test on the injectors and make sure they are are injecting the right amounts..
let us know and well go from there

Uh, I assume you have checked compression?
FOr the archives:
The NUMBER ONE rule when troubleshooting a rotary engine, the FIRST THING you always do, is check compression. Period. Until you get familiar enough with the sound adn effects of a blown/low compression engine to know the sound/feel of a bad one versus a good one, or else you will spend a lot of money adn time on something you can not fix.
JDM, sorry I missed your call. I tried to call back but no answer. I am up right now if you wish to call.

OK, thanks for all the replies people, Im working on it day and nite.... Here is a list of all the parts I have checked:
compression=good
coil packs (replaced leading)=fine
all injectors (cleaned)=fine
aws( can't get a solid ohm reading...jumping around alot, spastic, but I disconnected it, got the car started and it ran its same shitty way...could be a clue)
bac=fine
NO vacuum leaks Im sure..check over and over again..
NO electrical plugs not connected
I got it started again today....very very ruff, and very very flooded...I keep having to unflood it and clean the plugs. started one time went to high idle, I blipped the throttle and it came down and died. i COULD have kept it running, but there was no use. It just does the same thing over and over again.
I have NOT checked the TPS, the AFM, or ECU...I really don't think it could be the ecu, just because of the way it IS running, BUT I am open to trying anything. I am going to try to get a tps, ecu and afm and try those parts so I KNOW they work....thanks again, and keep the info flowing!!
*oh yea, I can't find any info on HOW to check the AFM....*

HA, yea they are retarded. I wasn't there yet I guess when you called the first time? But thanks for calling back, I wrote down everything you said and am going to try a few things. Doesn't matter if I do, or don't get it to run, I still am wanting to buy an engine, but I really do need it to go until then! I am gonna try the injectors again, see it something is sticking open, and swap out the afm.
