Help With Gas Cover PLEASE!

Hey guys,

I have a 88 madza rx7 and it just came back from the body shop with a fresh coat of paint. Well im registering it this week but the thing is I was going to put gas like 2 gallons of gas in my car with my gas containter so I could take it to the police station since my car doesnt have any gas left at all and when it starts it just dies. So I went to pull the level and nothing. I kept pulling the gas lever to open and you can hear it something moving inside the cover but it's just not popping out. I tried moving the cover in and out side to side and everything but nothing. It won't come out. Any ideas on how I can get this bad boy opened? I opened the hatch and took out the carpet and followed the line to the cover but I don't know what Im suppose to do to pop it out? Let me know!

Mine lost the spring, so it won't pup out.
To open it, it's as easy as having someone gently push the side of the cover while you are pulling the lever.
Hope it helps!

yeah their is a little lever on the backside of it. Just pull it down and the door will open. I have had to do this on my vert for a few years now. I just pulled the plastic molding out of the way enuff for my hand to fit down their.

Open the trunk, walk around to the gas tank. From outside the vehicle, remove the carpeting from the area where the gas tank is inside the vehicle. When looking at that area from the rear of the car (from outside the vehicle) there will be a line(cable) running to the right side of the gas tank opening area. There should be a small piece of metal that has a spring attached to it. This small piece of metal also looks like it was perfectly shaped for a finger to pull on it. SO PULL ON IT. As you pull this curious little thing away from the gas tank area (towards you), push on the front-most area of the gas tank door at the same time. It will pop open. Since I have removed everything from the interior of my car. This is as simple as popping the trunk, looking into my trunk, and pulling the goofy lever.

Hopefully you can understand this.

Yep, you descibed the emergency gas cap opener that is on all the coupes (also found in the owners manual).
