help figuring Oil return for 6p turbo
I've done some research and seen a couple ways to make the turbo return line. from tapping the front cover to tapping the pan, or just putting on the turbo2 cover.
For the people who have tapped the front cover, has anyone done it while on the car?? It seems like alot of time could be saved by not removing the front cover, and the risk of metal shavings can be reduced by taking off the pan. I haven't decided what to do so I'm looking for feedback on what's worked for people in the past.

As for tapping the front cover, you can do it on the car if you have enough space. The area around the metering oil pump is kind of tight so it might be difficult to get the tap in there.
Do this before you change the oil. Drill slowly and thoroughly coat the drill bit in grease to pick up as many shavings as you can. Do the same with the tap. Now drain the oil and use a paper towel coated with petroleum jelly to pickup the shavings. You can also probably flush the area of the hole with brake cleaner through the open oil drain plug.

Do what Greddy did with the rx-8 turbo kit they sell for 3 grand...run a fitting and hose to the oil drain plug.
Seriously, I would run it into the front cover. OIlpan-drained turbo setups always seem to have drainage/smoke issues, because it's not hard to get splashing of the oil back up into the drain tube.
On the s5 NA engine, it is VERY easy to add an oil drain...the holes are already cast for you, you just have to drill them out. Even the bolt holes are started, you just have to widen them and tap them. It could be done in less than 30 minutes, assuming that the fan and bullshit is already out of the way.

I just recently purchased the stock oil return lines a few days ago, and while looking at a spare cover I think i'm going to try to put it in the stock spot. and I do have an electric fan.
and aaroncake, that page really helped me figuring my options, thanks. I was leaning towards tapping a fitting below the omp because I have some AN 90s, but the stock location seems easier.
