Help with a few minor things from an 86 na

Ok I got my cats taken out a while ago, and under my car there is a hose pretty much right above the exhaust(the beginning of the exhaust) and the hose has a clamp and screw on it, but it just end there...it looks like it comes from the air pump(or around that area)...is this just a hose running from the airpump to my former cat, or is it something else?

Another thing: I think this is the transmission I am talking about...near the front of the tranny underneath, there is about a 1 inch hole there, and i look inside and I can see a small gear...is this hole supposed to be here?

Thanks for any help I can get!

hmm well...

the air pump does run a hose to your cats to keep them from heating up to bad, and also to help with emmisions....so that is probably what that is (no cats = air pump is useless, unless you have the 6 ports)

That hole should probably not be there.....I have never noticed holes around the transmission that show gears....check your fluid levels of your diff and tranny

Anyone else have suggestions about this mysterious 'black hole with gear' lol....remember I don't know that much about underneath cars so it might not even be the transmission....although I'm pretty sure it is. It is right in the middle of the car pretty much(left to right), and shortly behind the oil pan. Also I think my 6 ports are stuck anyways....should I get rid of that air pump?

You sure its the tranny that has the hole and not the bell housing?

It very well could be the bell housing....again, i don't know much about the 'inside' of cars cause I never really had the opportunity to learn about them....don't worry though I'm starting to catch on to things. Anything you can tell me to help me out is appreciated. I was kinda cramped under the car and I didn't have a light at the time, but it looked like that 'torpedo' shaped thing....i thought that was the transmission?

The only thing that I can think of is that I think the 'torpedo' shaped thing as you describe is the starter or starter solenoid which will have an access hole in it.

The transmission is that big silver aluminum looking thing under middle the car with an drive shaft heading towards the rear.

The bell housing holds the flywheel, clutch (or lock up/torque converter for an auto) and bolts the large end onto the back of the motor, the small end looks bolted into or as part of the transmission. The starter and starter solenoid bolt into the bell housing as well to turn the flywheel when starting.

The drive shaft runs from the back of transmission to the differential (or rear axle/end).

Yes, on the bellhousing part of the transmission there is a approx one inch hole, off center to the left. Should have had a rubber plug in it. You can look up at the flywheel teeth. And like dead of knight suggests it seems your aux actuators are probably not working because they have seemingly cut off the source of air pressure to them (the capped off hose you mentioned). Say, Saku, you might be interested in downloading, free, from the internet the factory manual. Its located at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com Its very free and makes for informative reading. Although its for a 88, your car is virtually the same. Have fun.

Huggy Bear...your profile shows your to have a 90. Your aux ports are powered by the airpump. 86-88 are powered by the backpressure of the exaust system.
