Help!! detonating! (Searched)have fuel

This is really pissing me off, I recently got a new engine and thought I did everything to make it realiable?? I was driving it and boosting it to 10-11 psi And I heard the dreaded PIng! I backed off immediately and just sizzled in my seat. I have searched and all threads I found someone was missing one of these mods.

Here are my relevant mods:
Apexi S-afcII "Not tuned" set at %0
550cc bluprinted R/C pri.
680cc New secondarys "tested"
warlboro 255lph rewired
New fuel filter
rtek7 CPU upgrade with internal FCD
Boost gauge
TID & K&N cone
Full exhaust 2.5 inch
Ported WG , twin scroll removed

Now granted, I dont have a tuned Safc but I should have enough fuel to support 10-11 psi on stock turbo... Shouldnt I be running rich at %0 across the board?
Help please! I want this engine to last..

Thanks
~jesse

Was it one good ping? Or a series of pings?

one ping, than another later in the night..... Single pings because I would react as soon as I heard... the engine has 2900 miles so Im still very sensitive to it..

the first was a pretty strong ping, but I believe the engine is OK,

If timing is stock, get the car tuned. Its going to be your safest bet no matter what.
Might want to try a fuel pressure gauge too...

I agree, But Im suspecting something bigger.. these are the same type of pings and same conditions/boost.. that the first motor poped from.... I had no fuel mods other than a non rewired warlboro before?

might want to try some colder spark plugs, maybe 1 step colder.

You'll find it on the dyno.
You know that's the answer to you prob and the best solution... post us the data when you get it.
Try and get and AFR and an EGT reading if possible, as well.

are you sure it's actual detonation? If it's happened two or three times your engine should already be screwed.

What octane gas are you running? My buddy ran 93 Wawa gas and had detonation but switched to sunoco ultra 94 and the problem went away...

by crossed meaning that the trailing T1 plug leads from the T2 coil, and the trailing T2 plug leads from the T1 coil.

The leading leads don't matter if they are crossed.

What RPM are you hearing this at? I think you need more fuel. I am running 12 PSi on my second stage, and I have a WB, and I KNOW 0% with those injectors is not enough fuel above 5.5k for 10-11 PSI. With my mods anyways. But I do have a Hybrid Turbo ...

fuel shouldn't be a problem at 10-11 pounds. With just the walbro at 11 pounds I was in the mid 11's.

Is it possible to ping due to too much fuel?

when the First ping happend I was at %2-3+ from 5.0k-7.5k
it was a hard shift form 4th to 5th dropping rpms to 4600ish....I might have lifted the throttle and reapplied it before ping..

No. Pinging is pre-detonation. Usual causes for this are running lean or ignition timing being to advanced.

^^^ Exactly. You either need to pull back the timing, or add more fuel in the rpm range that you got the ping.

Ok, What the hell are you doing getting deep into the throttle without having the car tuned??? Are you nuts? You've changed the fuel pump, the injectors, and you're boosting to an unstock PSI. You have no clue what your AFR's are at right now. You are assuming that you have enough fuel but you don't know. That "tick tick tick" you hear is your timebomb. Enjoy.

Whoah there. If anything he should be running stupidly rich at only 10-11 pounds with the walbro and gsl-se secondaries which is why this is strange. Like mentioned above: find what voltage is getting to the fuel pump, check for fuel pressure, check your ignition timing. Yes, getting this thing on a dyno with a wideband might help diagnos this problem quicker and more accurately.

I do not think he is running rich. Okay 3 options here. Timming, running lean, or a mental breakdown.

Timing= very easy to check, so I sure hope this is not the issue.

Mental= he says he is sure it's detonation.

Running lean= Maybe a bad injectors, bad wiring, or what i think .. he is just plain running lean for that boost. Or maybe his boost gauge is inacurate and he is really running 14 PSI and running lean. what kind of boost gauge you got?

I mean those are the only real causes, unless you have a crazy amount of exsesive heat somewhere. Tune your AFR! Not only will it prevent this, but it will give piece of mind, and more power.
