I have (personally) managed to trace this problem to the starter signal wire being loose/corroded. The signal wire being the smaller line that goes to the starter, when you hit start 12vdc is applied to this line. Check your connection.

the starter is bad, replace it. take it off and go to an auto parts store and have it tested. take the starter, alternator, and battery as a matter of fact. its free.

This wire may be corroded in my car, do you have any tips on replacing this wire? I see where it connects to the starter, but do I have to take apart the dash to get at it by the ignition switch?
