Unhappy Help! car wont start

Last night i took her out for a drive and i noticed that she was idling kinda high, so i pulled over for a bit and the idle would not go down. i left her on and popped the hood and noticed a crackling sound coming from some where. after a bit the car died. and there was a strange smell coming from it. It did not start for about 30 minutes, and when it finaly started it only ran for about a mile till it died again. So i had it towed home. this moring i started it up and it hasitated for a bit but when it finally started it idled high again at like 4-5k rpm so i turned it off and it doesnt turn on again. can anyone help in what this means?

Thanks is advance

Pull the spark plug out and see if its wet with gas..... if you can get it to start again, pull the water neck cap off RIGHT AWAY before it heats up and see if there are bubbles coming up out of the block.....
