HELP: Car won't shut off!!

It happened randomly. After a day of dealing with blown fuses, hot starts and reverse lights that decided to stay on on me, the car decided to stay running after I pulled the key. What the hell is the damn problem? Could the ignition switch be fried? Short in the mess of wires somewhere? Oh, my tach is dead too. It died when I started the car back up again but all the other gauges work....

I love my car so much but i'm really considering selling it...
Someone help me so that I don't sell the poor thing....

BTW, I searched with no result.

Yea....it's kinda funny.

I have to pop the hood and pull the damn EGI fuse to shut the car off. I'm pissed because i've been dealing with a new problem almost every other day.

There are two reason the car still runs after you take the key out. One if the engine is "desseling" or the ingintion swith is fried. You said the tach is not working, so changes are you have a electrical problem. Careful with ingition electircal problems. The wires that run to and from the ingition carry large current!!

So, I should just go ahead and replace the switch? I'm in no mood to tackle another issue !!

Now I know that there IS a love/hate relationship between me and my 7....

Have you messed with your altanator lately?? if the wires in back of the alt. are crossed, you will have a permanent turbo timer.

I haven't touched the alternator in a long long time.

I'll swap it out just in case. I have a spare one lying around...

Just start the engine....pull the alternators small plug off......then turn the key to off. If the engine now stops, it is the alternator, if not, it's something else. I vote alternator.

Did you disconnect the battery terminal(s) when you replaced the alt?

If not, you could have brushed the main cable's terminal up against the engine (ground), which would have blown the main fuse...

Does the fuse still blow with the alt all connected up?

No problem. Actually, Digi7ech was the first person I know to have this happen too, so thats why I kind of know what it is.

Yeah, they should have them. Don't forget that there are 10mm bolts holding that fuse to the bus bars too, it doesn't just pull out like the rest of them...

i disconnected the terminals before doing the job. As far as the main alt terminal, it barely clears the TMIC. The main terminal is in a slightly different location the old alt. Thats what leads me to believe that its the wrong one...

And yes. The fuse blew after i connected everything....batt terminal last that is....

If you want to buy two fuses to make damn sure it's the alt, disconnect the alt cable (isolate it from ground), install a good fuse, and see if it blows. If not, proceed...

With the new fuse still in, reinstall the alt cable terminal, being careful not to let the terminal touch any grounds. If the fuse blows now, it's the alt...
