help, car died while driving
1990 gxl

car died while driving today. I was coming off the highway to a stop sign. As I take off from the stop sign, I hear what sounds like a backfire, then the car dies.
Now the car won't start.
I check the engine sounds following the aaron cake's blown engine page, and it sounds like it is not a blown engine (3 steady clicks on both rotors)
When I try to start it up, I hear backfires and see flames and the eninge won't turn over.
Am I off by guessing it's fuel system related? I had my injectors removed for cleaning about 3 months ago. Since then I've noticed a tendency to flood on cold starts, but always starts up immediately with holding the pedal down.
Any help is appreciated.
