Help.... car boggs
My car i just picked up boggs really bad. It dosent want to stay running until a few minutes after i start it. It runs kind of rough, like theres no power to it. When I drive it, its under power and backfires everytime i shift gear. I inspected the spark plugs and theres a minor build up on it so im replacing them tomorrow. It idles from 1k to 1.5k from time to time. What should I look into? Its a s5. Im a new to rotarys, but this guy i meet told me as long as my 5th and 6th ports are good the car runs strong... what are the 5 and 6 ports? just trying to get this motor up and running strong.

Ouch, sounds like you got yourself a problem, you might want to start by ignoring whoever told you that.
The rotary and the piston engine share this, that they require three basic things to run, and what you're talking about sounds like #3.:
1) Compression - Just do a compression check
2) Fuel: Do you have any vacuum leaks? Are your ECU and battery grounds in decent shape? I don't think fuel is your problem.
3) Spark: Check your timing, set it PROPERLY. Also, make sure your leading coils are plugged into the leading plugs (the coil next to the battery, make sure both wires go to the LOWER spark plugs) and your trailing coils aren't swapped. (T1 goes to the top of the front rotor, the one closer to the radiator)
Hope this helps!

Compression, 120psi is great, 100 is fine, anything less is meh. Anything below 90 and it's time to rebuild/replace.
The FSM tells you how to check the timing, read the stickied FAQ
You'll need a timing gun, but they can be borrowed easily.

check the throddle, i had my firs two butterflys start not opening and it felt like there was no power. take all the intake off so you can see the throttle bodys, have someone push the throttle to the floor (while the car is off) and inspect to make sure they all open. the back two dont open all the way but all of the should open.
