Help on buying N/A FC!

Im looking to buy, or atleast already have this 88 or maybe 89 n/a. The car is going for 600 USD so I'm thinking the car is hot, the owner doesn't know what he's got, or the car is seriously messed up. Anyway I cant figure whether its a GTU or GXL or not. The front bumper looks to be a series 5, and it has mesh style rims and its red, but the title on it says 88. It has power windows and a moonroof, and cassette. The car has about 106k on it. The car makes an excessively loud sound looking to be in the front of the car by the exhaust. The owner doesnt know whats really wrong with it. He said something about missing some kind of gasket or something, but the car smells like exhaust fumes in the car. Its also junky as hell with rags and bottles all over, and the door handle panels are coming off on both sides, though thats not too big of a deal. The middle panel also comes off easily. and the shift boot is covered in in duct tape. The driver seat doesnt move much either. The exterior looks to be in good shape, with no visible rust, except for plastic things coming off. The tires have 5k on them. The engine and transmission seems to be fine, with the exception of that exhaust problem I dont know of. So can anyone tell me if this car is worth 600 or will it give me trouble in the long run? And what could possibly be making that loud sound with the exhaust? I havent gotten under the car to find out.

And I was thinking on taking it to emissions testing, but it smelled so bad enough in the interior that I dont think itd actually pass the inspection. Unless the problem with it is actually just that one part with the exhaust?

i hope hes giving you the $420 to take it away. Sound like its only worth parting out. Or its more trouble then its worth.

For $600 you really can't go wrong, but it sounds to me like this car was neglected for a long time, and it will give you trouble in the long run.

Well he did say he needed the money to make payments for his new car. 420 doesnt sound at all too bad for the car, but it does seem that its been quite neglected. The damn turn signal stick falls off, and the windows dont roll up completely, and the sun roof doesnt go back all the way. Also the car has these buttons "Sports" and "Normal?" or so buttons in the middle panel. Would that qualify it as a GXL?

The car looks identical to this, except for the fact that its red, and doesnt have the GTUs on the side behind the wheel. It doesnt have any signs. But the wheels are the same, though I dont remember whether it had a wing or not, though I most likely dont think so. So is it possible that the car might be a GTUs?

And I can get actual pictures of the car, if that would help more to determine what type it is.
