Help

Ok this might take a little bit.

I have an 87 mazda rx7 and it needs work. But to start with it doesnt run. It will start whenever it wants which is not often and when it does it feels good and powerful. Im not real sure where to start. Is there anything besides the whole flooding deal that i could look at?

Any and all help would really be appreciated!!

You could try spraying starter fluid into the air intake duct for 2 to 3 seconds at most. Do this with the plug to the fuel pump removed or the circuit opening relay disconnected (you do this first). Try to start the car and see if it starts up briefly or not as the car should eventually die out if it starts since it's only relying on the starter fluid to run off of. Try this and then wait til the next day and do the same thing in the morning. Then try again at night that same day. If it is able to start up each time w/the assistance of the starter fluid then you know the problem centers basically on the fuel aspect. If it's the fuel aspect then it's either the fuel pump, fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulator, water thermosensor, wiring related to the fuel pump, engine compression or a combination of the above.

ok tried the starter fluid and no luck. it didnt start up it sounded like it really wanted to. would the oil be contaminated by too much fuel? i check power to the pump even though that wouldn't matter if it still didnt start with the starter fluid. i also checked spark and it was real good. it had quite a bite. any other suggestions or should i start my search for a new engine or rebuild kit??

did you check anything?

- Timing?
- Plugs?
- De-flooding procedures?

yes

deflooding checked
timing not checked
plugs new ngk
the car has been sitting for 4 yrs. i was wanting to check compression but alldata calls for a certain testing because a regular compression tester only test for the highest pressure. where can i get a compression tester for a rotary engine?
also timing. what is specification on timing and can i do it with a regular timing light? or do i need a certain type like the compression tester?
oil? i know the oil specs are in the stickes and i saw and read them but is there a certain type that is best for high mileage?
