Help with 86 RX7

I'm 16 and I just got my second vehicle, a 1986 RX7. I got it as a fixer upper and a good gas mileage car. Its been sitting for 15 years, everything is there. What I want to know is what might I have to do to get it running if its been sitting for that long? Give me a worst case mechanical scenario.

You have the worst case scenario my friend. Congrats on the find, though I hope you didnt pay too much. After sitting for so long, and im assumign without beign started for reasons unknown, the engine will most liekly not turn over at all. If it does its a miracle but you are lookign at a rebuild asap. But I would search out 'rebuilding' on teh forum if you are mechanically inclined, and as far as gas mileage....dont expect it from a 7....Im getting the same mileage as my V8 thunderbird...albeit its got more power for its size.

it could be carbon locked. try to turn it over by hand carefully, if it turns over, drain the tank and put fresh gas in, maybe a new battery and see if it starts and how it runs. If all is well, do a 60k mile tune up (see FAQ). If it doesn't turn over the motor is probably carbon locked (search for ATF trick) that might free it up. If that doesn't free it up then you're looking at taking the engine apart and doing a rebuild. Baby steps though, get out there and see if it turns over!
