Help with 5spd Tranmission Removal

I've gotten everything disconnected but absolutely can not get the transmission to slide back from the engine. I'm absolutely certain I have all the bolts out as I'm swapping transmissions so I've already got one out of the car to count holes. What else can I try to get it to pop loose?

Have you removed the starter?

Yes and yes. Also disconnected the drive shaft and all the electrical bits.

Did you get the bolt tucked away underneath the starter? It's hard to see.

Ground is out, slave is out, shifter is out, driveshaft is out, mounts are off, bolts are removed, if you've done all of this and you're still having trouble getting it off, i reccomend removing and inspection plate and using a prybar to pry it apart.

What's this inspection plate you speak of? I didn't notice anything like that on the car or the spare tranny.

It's on the top of the tranny where the bellhousing meets the rear iron, next to the slave. A little flimsy looking metal plate. If it's still in the car you probably will have to pry/rock it loose.

I had this problem, turned out to be the hidden bolt behind the starter. Make sure you got it.

If you have it out, wiggle the tranny out - rock it left and right a tad to try and break it loose from the motor. Just don't go too far, you will damage the input shaft.

yeh i have all the bolts out. this is the second time im taking my transmission out.
it used to be an auto and i swapped to a tII manual. but now i have to drop that tranny bc some fucktard that "helped" me messed up.

but yeh anyways i just tied a rope to the auto and tugged and tugged till it came out.
but i didnt care if that one broke.
now this one i have to be more careful and it isnt coming off by just wiggling it and rocking it back and forth.

I know this is an old thread, but one question comes to mind. Did you take ALL bolts off from the tranny? There is one bolt that is reversed on top of the engine with a nut. It sometimes gets bent a little and it will make it hard to take off and reinstall the tranny because the bent bolt won't let the tranny align perfectly with the engine.........

Mine finally did come out. I basically just wiggled the crap out of it and it finally slid off. It did take a second helper though. I think some of the initial issue for me was I was doing it by myself and was applying pressure on the posts and input shaft allowing it to bind a bit. A second hand just helped me move it around without fatiguing and to keep it straight as we backed it off so it didn't bind. We did not end up having to use a pry bar or anything else wacky like that. rycerock3t's suggestion of lifting up on the rear and pulling is basically the right approach. It helps everything from binding.

should be 6 tranny bolts, theres also a braket holding it up near the tail end of the tranny.
