Unhappy Help!

Well today I got a new blinker switch in (now I know it was from and s5 and not an s4 like I thought) But now my headlights won't work it started to smoke right after I popped the blinker switch in (of course I took it out as soon as it did this) I searched and can't find anything like this.

I know I will have to repin the harness to work with the s5 blinkers, but how do you repin them? What tools will I need?

I found the post and have the diagram for the harness, but I need to know how to repin it.

S4 and S5 turn signal switches are wired different.

What is your car, and what are you trying to do???

Sorry, I was pretty mad when it all happened.

My car is a '86 base model, I went to replace the turn signal switch due to the old one being bad (it was really hacked up from the previous owner) I bought it off a guy thinking it was the S4, i even specified that it was an s4, I plugged the new one in today and next thing I know the headlight switch starts smoking.

As soon as that happened I unplugged it and checked the fuses, 1 of them was blown and I replaced it, went to check the headlight switch after the fact and nothing worked. I opened it up and sure enough, the large black box on it was melted.

Now I am not sure how or why it melted but thats besides the point (I can buy a new one) My porblem is repining the s5 blinker switch to match the existing s4 harness, I have the diagram for it but I have never repinned a harness before.

What tools will I need for it, and how exactly do I go about repining it?

I use a small pick.

If you look at the terminal side of the plug (not the wire side) you can look down and see a small lock, that holds the terminal pin into the housing. Lift the small plastic lock tab up (with a small thin pick), and slide the wire towards the rear.

When you go to re-insert the wire/terminal pin back in, it just slides in and the locking tab snaps into lock the terminal into the housing.

Well got it all fixed today, I ended up finding a '86 in damn near perfect condition at the junk yard and got a new blinker and headlight unit for $20. Funny thing was the guy didn't even know he had the car there, I noticed it as I was driving off.

Thanks for the help though
