Question Hello and I need Help Please

Hello this is my first post of hopefully many to come. I have a huge issue and apparently every mechanic in Toledo hates Rotary engines. Just to let everyone know I have a little knowledge about cars, but I have every intention of learning as much possible.

That being said, I have a '91 Rx-7 non-turbo and I am having a starting problem. When I turn the engine over I get a very rough start, which consists of back firing, smoke (whiteish blue), a heavy gas smell, with occasional poping noises coming from the engine. I used injector cleaner, as well as an octane boost which seemed to help for abit. After letting the car idle for about 10min it will run, with some power issues.

Ok now I am extremely open to suggestions on what to do, but like I said I am kind of on the "new" side of these engines. So Im thinking its the fuel injector, which I have absolutely no idea how to check/repair. Thank you for your time regarding this, and Im looking forward to asking more detailed questions later.

YoYoYo oi

Your apex seals may need to be changed, and whats the mileage?Have your Injectors checked, and not to mention, there are threads posted already explaining the problems you feel to perhapes be experiencing. Simply said, I would still suggest swap for the II Turbo 13B "4" port type, rather than this N/A. 91, and not a turbo, I need to get my dates in order.... Any who, go for resealing your engine, and injector testing or changing.

GBaKi over and out

Do a compression check first because it could be other things. It Sound like it is flooded badly.

^I agree. After you check compression, check the injectors cause it sounds like you are getting way too much fuel.

Its got around 70k miles. And trust me I searched the forums for about 3 weeks before I posted this, I didnt want to feel like an idiot and post the same thing over and over (like the general rough starts). There just wernt any posts that had all these symptoms that I have.

So how would I go about doing a compression check, and check the injectors. I figure this wont be exactly an easy operation but im willing to get my hands dirty. thank you again, at least im moving on this finally.

Compression check: http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/blown.htm

Testing the injectors is more complicated. You will need to pull the fuel rails and pressurize the fuel system to make sure they are not dripping. If compression checks out, just skip checking the injectors and send them out for cleaning (Yellow Pages - > Injection/Fuel Injection).

And of course, you will want to do all standard tuneup stuff.
