Hello everyone new guy

Hey I am picking up an rx7 GTU from a friend of mine it was sitting for 3 years and took me a day to get started up and going again need to bleed the brakes out. But the thing started up great after the clucth switch was modified a lil bit. Didnt smoke much and once it ran it didnt smoke at all from what i noticed on initial start up is it started bubbling at the upper cap. But then it stopped after idling for 5 min's. the car has 160k miles on it but i dont think it was rallied on to hard. It has a dent on it that i am going to try to fix its a pretty big dent but i cant complain for a practically free car that just needs a lil love and TLC.
Specs are 1989 RX7 GTU N/A motor pretty much everything is stock. Does the GTU come with a turbo tranny? Also does it come with Posi in the rear. Is there a way to track information down by the vin if there is a chart please let me know
Thx all
NEW RX7 OWNER

Whattitis

Congrats and Welcome chief. Well, to work I guess.
No S5 (89-91...92 technically sort of..) came with LSD (possi) exept the TII's and the GTUs. Don't get GTU and GTU's confused, there is a BIG difference.

The only cars that came from the factory, and were sold on a dealer lot to the public, that had turbo trannies were....Turbos.
GTUs' have a shorter 5th gear and a 4:3 final drive.
S5 TII and S4 TII have slightly different 5th gears.
Miata trannies swap in sexy like with some work... search

JM1FC3312*4567891

J=country (Japan)
M= maker (mazda)
1=type (1=NA 2=TII)
Fc= chassis code (second gen RX-7)
33= body type (33=coupe)
Next number is for engine
*check digit, a complex formula is used, body type, country, maker, and a mathmatical formula involving the VIN. This number is asigned by the G men to
ensure you can't think up fake VINs, since the check digit will be wrong if you
don't know the formula.
The rest identifies the date of production and the plant it was made at.
Give me your VIN (or PM if you don't want the world to know) and I'll run it through the MAZDA dealer data base and get you the info on your car.

JM1FC331*M0100001

J= country (J=apan 1 US 4US)
M= maker (M=azda F=ord Y=Mazda)
1= car type (1 passenger 2 truck/van 3van/cross over 4 compact truck V passenger car)
FC= Model (FB 1st gen, FC 2nd, FD 3rd, FE RX-8, FP mazda 6, TA millenia, etc)
331= body style/power train (newer cars are in Mazda EPC, older on M3 dealer site) FC 331 NA FC 332 TII
* check digit
M=year (L-90 M91 so on up to Y-2000, then it starts 1-2001 up to 9, 2009, then 2010 starts at A again up to 2012)
0=assembly plant (0-hiroshima 1-hofu 5-flat rock T-edisson U-louisville)

Yes i also have a toyota truck that i built currently sits on 38'' Irok radials and too much to list...I have a lot of knowledge on these trucks. And am pretty good at rebuilding piston driven motor's i am just now dippin into a lil bit of rotary fun just trying to get the thing on the road for now currently i have to re-bleed the brakes as they are still kinda soft... after that i will start attacking the big *** dent on the drivers side Qaurter panel hopefully i can pull it out with the slide hammer with out any difficulty. Other than this i am quite enthused about getting this car going and see how she rips down the road. Like i say the best things in life are free things so i cant complain when i get a running car for free even if its got load of oil caked everywhere and some dings and a big dent on the side. I am looking forward to tearing this car apart ones the motor dies out on me. its got 160k miles but was babied i am taking it. Babied as in driver wise the dent on the side is there cause it got hit in a parking lot next weekend i should be able to get it down to my shop and actually do some real work on it.... Get ready for a build when the motor goes though i will post up pics and so forth. I am leaning towards complete teardown body work and a JDM 13BT in the future so look out for it.
