heater hoses

Hi,
I am trying to remove my heater core (system) out of the car. I am going to connect a hose from the coolant feed to the coolant return to the lower end of the rad.
Is this the proper way to delete (bypass) the heater core?? If so, what size hose do I need??

5/8" hose will do

You *can* do it this way but not the best way. Because the loop will have less restriction than with the heatercore, valves etc, there will be greater flow through the bypassed loop than there was before. This will reduce the coolant flow to the rear rotor.

Some people cap off the connections, but there is not a reliable way to do this.

You can clamp a short nipple of hose to each end and install a brass barbed plug and add a clamp. This works well, but looks like crap.

You could also run the hose as you suggested an install a brass or stainless valve to close the line. Works well, looks fine but is kinda silly to run a line and install a valve to stop all flow.


My question to you is why eliminate your heater when you live in The Great White NOrth?

I don't drive my car in the winter, heck I barely drive my car (if I am lucky I got 2500miles a year).

I am gonna do the option that's works well and make my car looks crap. What size hose do I need??

the car makes enough heat to keep ya warm without the heater.. I bypassed mine when my heater core crapped out. just look in the engine bay, you'll see two hoses going from the engine into the firewall (one on each side of the engine). take those off then just run a 5/8"(pretty sure that's the size) heater hose from one side of the engine to the other. you shouldn't need more than 4' of hose but measure just in case. but now that you can't use the heater to lower engine bay temps, you may want to invest in an aluminum radiator. My temps got scary hot at the last autox.
