Heater Hose

Heater Hose
I thought I`d share with everyone a solution I found to a blown heater hose.
The hose that failed on my 86 GXL is the one that comes off the drivers side of the engine and goes up to the heater core. This hose is molded with a number of bends. I was not able to find this hose at any of the six auto supply houses I went to. (Yes I went in person and took the old hose). None of these places could even get a number for this hose so they could order it for me. At one of the independent stores they let me go through their rather extensive hose rack. I found a "Gates" hose number 21309 which was a near perfect fit for the top half of the original hose.
With this "Gates" 21309 hose, a straight 5/8" barbed fitting, less than 24" of plain 5/8" heater hose and four standard hose clamps I was
able to repair my car. I will be replacing the rest of the hoses on my car next weekend so as to avoid any more "suprises".
Just thought I`d share the hose number with everyone in case it might help anybody else out.

It can be had at Mazdatrix or any of the friendly Mazda dealerships for about $25...
And once you get the new one on the car, apply a layer of black RTV all over the portion of the hose next to the engine/ below the filter...To keep the oil drips from saturating it again...You won't have to worry about it again for a long time now...

Thanks for the RTV idea.
My hose failed on a Friday evening, I couldn`t leave it where the hose blew so I had to come up with something then. I new Mazdatrix would have the exact hose but couldn`t wait a week for it. My local Mazda dealer can`t find their *** with both hands and a birddog. I just wanted to share the solution I came up with in case it might help anyone in the same spot.
