heater core? (heater not working)

ok, first cold day, and I realized that my heater isn't working.

a) no leak that I can see in the form of wet spots on the carpet (from a hole in the core)

b)engine staying cool so I know it's got coolant.

only thing is, blew a coolant hose this summer when I first got the car, replaced it and re-filled the coolant, BUT, I don't know if there's any air in the heater core or if that'd prevent it from working at all.

other thing is, most of the vents and such are gone, so it's just blowing straight out. this doesen't bother me, I'm fine with that, but well, if I'm going to be driving my 7 in the winter here in Rochester, NY, I need heat.

Any suggestions or thoughts? Thanks!

Why do so many people choose to live up north then? Hell, Tennessee winters are cool enough to suit me, I just like the summer too much.

that was even when it was cold outside 30-40 degrees.

I didn'treally choose to live here....actualy... let me re-phrase that... I go to school here, I still consider myself to live in FL (I can't stand the idea of being considered a "new yorker"

anyway, still trying to get thoughts on the heater issue.... I'd rather not have to remove my "shift boot" to get heat directly from the tranny..... though that might work

IT likely has nothing to do with our heater core. but the logicon itself, blower motor, or the valve that switches between hot and cold. none of which is fun to work on.

damn.ok..... well, I'll look into it tomorow....

also, I DID remove the A/C pump this summer (extra weight, I don't even use A/C in my other car)

but I wouldn't think that'd have anything to do with the heater

does it switch vents from floor to dash or just stay at one location? if so i would say logcon is done. if it pumps cold air only especially after about five minutes of warm air pumping, i would say air mix motor, listen for the switch under your feet changing!then def. a.m.m. if the location of the air flow changes, you get and no temp changes, go under the dash, and pull the a.m.m. rod off, it is held on by a plastic snap. if you can manually change the temp by pushing it up or down, live with doing it that way(many people do it) or swap the a. m.m. and or logicon. do the logcon first. you should buy a used one and resolder ALL of the joints. if you can't, have someone do it. WAY cheaper than new or remanufactured! and def. worth the time, then go to mazdaformance prob has an ad. at the top of the page and buy a NEW air mix motor. they are in the clerance page for like 60 bux!!! DEF WORTH IT AFTER YOU INSTALL ONE BAD USED ONE!!!!!! mazdatrix want more than 200 for them!!! this is only if the logicon does not do the trick.

Thank you very very much, I will work on it in the morning to test which of those it is.

the direction of the air WILL change when I change what vents it's supposed to come out of. hopefully I can fix it by manualy changing it.... which I CAN live with, as well, heat is all I have and need
