Heat Shield Needed on Turbo???
Ok well i took the turbo off my car to get the wastegate ported and in the process my factory heat shield were all messed up and rusted and just a plain and simple pain to have there, my question is do I have to have some kinda heat shield or something or dont I.... And if so wat can i use or get, because ive already thrown All the factory heat shields away cause they werent any good....
thanx

some people say their car felt slugish compared to when they shielded the manifold from the heat. i took my stock heat shield off and. i say that i can definetly feel a loss in power after it gets hot under there, heat soak sux
i left that damn things off. personally i think heat shields are the devils work when it comes to wrenchen on ur car anyway. if ur really worried bout heat soak or u run ur car hard for long periods of time then wrap ur turno and downpipe in that heat tape ****
well my downpipe is gonna be wraped in heat wrap but how can you wrap your turbo? Has anyone ever made new heat shields?
But it would suck to have major heat soak which i figure it would with no shields....

Mazda put the heat shields there for decoration. Leaving them off won't sustantially increase the heat in the enigne bay, and that heat won't affect rubber hoses, wiring looms, brake lines...

lol...... in other words, the heat shields are there for a reason fellaz.
Well I would put them back on if they would have been in decent shape, but there looked like they sat in water for10 years or somethin, they were in good enough shape to be reused!!!
Get a turbo blanket, wrap the downpipe (careful though because it can cause additional heat stress to the pipe itself), and if you have a front mount, wrap the cold side of the intercooler piping...
I never wrap the hot side of the i/c piping, because it's best to let as much heat escape before reaching the intercooler as possible... Makes it's job a little easier... Let it out on the hot side, and keep it in on the cold side...
youve got a bit of a catch 22 there 13b4me- with a hot engine bay your probably gona see some heat soak into the i/c piping ( hot side ) from the engine bay.. ( grab you TID ) after its been running. its to hot to touch. the I/C piping will be much the same. I dont have a soulution but am just making a point for discussion
On my 88 TII I wrapped my downpipe from the turbo to the silencer with heat wrap. Don't have anything on the Turbo. Will see after I get the engine rebuilt if I need a turbo blanket. All my heat sheilds were in bad shape as well so they got tossed along with the stock exhaust.

i have theory..... whynot get the hot side of the turbo and DP ceramic coated and then put on the heat/exht. wrap on the DP (LOOSELY) and get a turbo blanket.... that would seriously keep underhood temps in check. am i right?
