headlights will not stay closed

when I disconect the battery and manually lower them they pop back up when I re-conect. I just got the car and am fixing odds and ends.

I have another working switch I am going to try now. motors are good cause they shoot back up when I re-conect.

is there something I am missing? when I turn off lights they go off and stay open. other swithc does nothing either way

There should be a second switch that controls whether they are up and down which is separate from the switch that turns the lights on and off. Make sure that switch is in the "down" position.

yeah, i have the same problem. my up-down switch doesnt have any effect. if the battery is connected, the headlights go up.

i plan to get a rebuilt switch from icemark (plus he has them modified so you can use the ftp's) and hopefully that'll fix the problem.

OK, yes guys I know about that other switch. owned 8 of these cars now and already knew that. I replaced the switch with a spare I had off my last car that worked.

Is there something else to check OTHER THAN THE SWITCH?!!

thanks

if you pull the fuse marked "Retractor 30A" that controls the headlights up/down function, but not the actual lighting. so you can manually adjust them if need be.

OK. That didnt really fix anything did it? I mean what your telling me is that I should pull the fuse and then manually lower them everytime I want them lowered....

yeah ....that wouldnt be a pain or anything.....

I want it to work right not get out and crawl under the bumper to manually lower the lights. really ghetto....not to mention already knew that would work but that doesnt solve the problem/

There is a small rubber stopper beneath the headlight assembly. It's attached to a screw that you can screw in and out, to make the stopper be closer to the headlight or farther away when it is retracted. That helps tell the motor when to stop closing. Do yours continue to go up and down once in a while by themselves?

IE: You turn your lights on and they go up and down for a minute and then stay up. Or you turn your lights off/retract the headlights and they go up and down for a minute and then stay down?

the headlight swith and the headlight opener switches both have no affect except to turn "ON" the lights.
I have tried 3 switches now- all same results. headlight never go down. I can do them manually but they pop right back up when I get about 3/4 the way.

think there is a problem in the wiring between the lights and the switches.

motors are good.
