Exclamation Headlight motors quit working

I have a 87 GXL and I had been having issues with my headlight switch (the interior and back running lights would not come on), but the actual headlights worked fine and so did the headlight motors. I had the headlight switch unplugged for a week or so but nothing had been done to it yet, when I plugged it back in to double check if the tag lights worked or not, the headlights popped up like normal and came on but when I turned the dial to shut them off, the lights went off but didn't go down and I haven't been able to get them to move at all since then. I checked the fuses in the engine bay and under the dash, they were all fine except for one 10 amp fuse which I replaced (I rechecked it after running the car for a while and it's still fine) but the lights still won't go down. Does anyone know what would cause this?

The headlight switch has since been soldered so the interior and back running lights work now but still no response from the headlight motors. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I would unplug the retractor and clean the contacts with electrical cleaner. Let it dry for a few minutes. Next check the retractor fuse in the engine bay. Make sure it's on properly. If you soldered the headlight switch that could be a problem (let's hope not). But start from the outside in. Good luck

Thanks for the advice @Gabriel82 , I finally got some more time to work on it a bit. All the fuses were fine, and I cleaned the contacts. It turned out to be something completely stupid. A plastic piece had broken off so I thought the cleaner switch was in the right position but it wasn't. After I pulled the plastic piece out that had got stuck, I turned it, tried the headlights and they go up and down just fine again.
