Question Header runs into Crossmember on Convertable!!!

Any suggestions?

I have a 1988 RX7 Convertable 13B with man trans. Recently installed a Pace Setter header (garbage i know). It's a currently my daily driver and I live in CA, so I figured a bolt in header like the Pace Setter would suite me fine.

Wrong!!!

It bolted to the head and the factory cat just fine, minus the fact they didn't tell me that it does not work on the convertable because the primary tube runs right into the crossmember which apparently only come on the convertable cars. Sure I could drive around without the crossmember, but that's just stupid!

Any suggestions, I know Racing Beat makes a header that fits the convertable with the crossmember, but then I have to modify the flange to bolt it to my factory cat, which I would like to keep. (I know I could use the silencer, but don't want to in California, car is loud and smelly enough for cops to attract to!)

Does the coupe have a crossmember that is maybe different in shape that I could bolt up to my convertable???

Plus I have to drill and weld in the bung for the O2 sensor myself on the Racing Beat header!

I've looked everywhere, does anyone know of a header that fits my car with less modification involved??????

Ken

The subframe is considerably different between the two, and most headers will not fit. Your best bet is to use a RB vert down pipe instead

mazdatrix sells the racing beat header that fits with a hole drilled already for the 02 sensor i think...

I have the uncollected header with the 02 bung on my vert and it fits fine, id imagine the collected header fits as well...

it shouldnt be too much work for a shop to weld a flange on the cat to get it to bolt up

I have a 91 Vert that I converted into a Turbo. Before the conversion I had a
Racing Beat "Streetable Heather Collector" for 86-92 RX-7 N/A part # 16130.
It fit beautifully and came with the 02 sensor! Since you are not planing on using
a "presilencer" you will need a shop to weld flanges to a piece of pipe to run
from the header to the "Y".
I have the header sitting in my garage. It retails for $204 at Racing Beat. If you
are interested make me a reasonable offer. If interested I could take pic and e-mail
them to you (you could also go to the Racingbeat.com)

For full headers (no exhaust collector between engine & headers) you definitly need to go Racing Beat. If you just want a "NA downpipe / partial headers", I think RB & several other people sell that with the proper bending to clear the sub-brace-frame on the verts.
