well **** i have an 89 and i'm pretty sure it doesn't have one of those. Maybe I can set the idle speed screw to a higher rpm. Its weird they glow at the current idle speed which is about 750-800 but as soon as I raise it to 1k or above they no longer glow and go back to normal. I do understand the safety aspect and honestly i dont like the fact that these are red hot at idle. I'll try raising the idle speed with the idle speed adjustment screw and see if this eliminates the glow.

I found the last post in this thread to be interesting. He said run the lowest possible octane fuel in na rx7's. Running higher octane fuels over 87 can cause the headers to glow. I'm running 91, anyone have any response to this?

Try running 87 then.

Fuel doesn't burn any slower due to octane additives though, it is just less resistant to detonation. I highly doubt it is the cause but anything is worth trying in a situation where you and nobody else has little clue as to what the problem is.

I don't know a TON about the s5 motors but My advice would be to try leaning it out for a day, play with it whatever, then rich it up a little if you need to. I run 91 all day and it runs better, way better gas mileage. What kind of oil are you running?
