Exclamation having issues with every TOB i buy. any ideas

this is the fourth throwout bearing i've bought that appears to be off center, ive bought and returned 3 clutch kits from advanced auto and now the exedy clutch kit that i purchased off line has the same issue.

it appears that this throwout bearing, which is the same as all others ive bought, is off center;

this is the one that was removed, and its dead center;

(these pics were taken from directly above)

the old one also seems to spin a lot more freely than the new one, but maybe thats just because its so worn, idk.

if anyone has run into this before please let me know whats going on and/or where to buy from, preferably a place with quality control. maybe the employees of advanced auto and myself dont know that its supposed to be off center, which to me just doesn't sound right. this part has been holding me back from getting my car back together for about 3 weeks now, im tired of bumming rides and about to go NUTS

(by the way, i did do a search on this but couldnt find anything. so if you know of any threads already created around this issue please send it to me and an admin can delete this one)

hey what up ive had this issue to, like 2 or 3 times just like you. Funny because i just ordered an OEM replacement from mazdatrix and gave it to my mechanic and he said that this is one of the nicest TOB's he's seen for my car, so that's all i had.

Here's a link just in case you feel inclined http://www.mazdatrix.com/fclutch.htm

Just choose the model you have being N/A or Turbo and your good to go.

The bearing is self centering. If you press on it with your fingers, it will move into place.

funny, even without returning my whole exedy kit (that was purchased for only $140 instead of $190) and just buying another TOB, i'll still have spent less than doing all shopping through mazdatrix. their pretty pricey in some areas. so i just might go ahead and see what they send me, hopefully its like what you received from them.

you sure? cause every TOB that i've gotten like this one was dead set on being off center (no play at all) no matter how much i tried to f with it, it never budged, and when i spin it i feel no grinding you'd think it would have some kinda play.

yeah hes right, i wouldnt worry about it, it attaches to the pivot arm and can move up and down so it allows for movemet

dude your right, sorry for doubting! i went ahead and cushioned it with a towel and tapped on it with a hammer just to see and sure enough it popped to the other side, then i was able to gently tap it to center. dam!

well at least the whole ordeal lead me to getting an exedy instead of some off brand (probably still good for stock) clutch from advanced.

thanks

I bought a clutch kit once and the bearing looked like that out of the box. I contacted the manufacturer and they replied it was self-centering. Of course, by then I had already wasted money on an OEM throwout bearing and installed everything. It's one of those things that looks like it's messed up, but when you figure it out, you feel stupid. It makes sense that the bearing should have some give since it presses against the fingers on the pressure plate and not against a uniform surface.
