Have You Done This ?
I have a 88 na vert and the top is bad. Has anyone here replaced a top-do it yourself-kit ? where did you get it from, how much$, how hard was it to install and how did it look when you finished and would you do it again. I have found Crown tops in NC and they will make one for me,they say in about 3-5 working days for$225. I heard that JC WHITNEY buys their tops from them. also do you know where i can get a boot ,they don't make them. thanks. PEACE. ex...

Dude, if they can make you a top for that price let me know how it turns out. If it's a good quality top I'll buy one from them.
As for a boot, keep an eye on eBay, they pop up every once in a while. I think there may be one up there now, not sure if the auction is still going though.

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
The 88 RX-7 factory shop manual has a great write up and description of replacing the top.
I would not consider replacing the top without it.

I can speak from personal experience regarding the vert tops from J.C. Whitney. If you order the premuim top it is the same thing as original equipment on American cars. I replaced the top on an '87 Junkstang and it was very high quality.
It was also a royal bitch to put on. Getting the top to fit without wrinkles was pure hell. Next time I will pay an experienced person to do it.
