Have I stumped the experts or what?

Are all 86-91 rear brake calipers the same? Even the ones that use the wider vented hubs? They look very much alike to me. I am just assuming that the vented must open wider? Please let me know if there is a size or manufacture difference. I plan to do the 4 to 5 lug / 4 piston(front) caliper swap. Right now I have solid rear disks. The rears that I am swaping are vented (several mm wider). I would like to reuse the current rear calipers if they are the same. Sum up of question: Is there ANY difference in REAR calipers from 86-91 ALL MODELS (gxl,Turbo,se,etc...)?????

Yes I have searched so please dont suggest that, unless you found it on your search.

No they are not.

The caliper for the vented rear rotor has a different P/N than the one for a "normal suspension/non vented rotor".

see:

http://www.mazdatrix.com/j-2brake.htm

Note how the hardware kit is different as well, even though the brake pad itself is the same.

I believe they were different sizes, thus the different calipers, however I think they are all 1-piston floating.

There are 2 sizes for 5 lug rear ends.
Best bet is to call a local dealer and see how many differnet parts #s there are..

I assume there are 3 sizes. maybe a 4th if verts had a special brake setup

So all one piston, but different part numbers (no one knows if they are interchangeable..like...almost eveything else on S5). I wonder if the actual fit is different? I guess I will be the firs one to try it........

I don't believe they would be interchangeable, considering there is almost a 1" difference in diameter between them.

ok, thanks, so rear calipers for non vented 10mm hubs are narower then the rear calipers on vented 20mm hubs. Damn, Those things look IDENTICAL!

I am going to have to go examine these things real close, because we are only talking about a 10mm difference (I know .39 of an inch could be alot).

Thanks again for the replys
