Question Have any of you guys seen this? (homemade code reader??)

Hey guys.
Here are some (lousy) pics of something the previous owner of my car put together, and I was hoping someone could tell me what this is, or how it works. Its been about a year and a half since I bought the car, and I vaguely remember the guy showing this to me, and I think he said that it is like a code reader (if something goes wrong it will read the code) that blinks it a pattern to tell you what is wrong. It is located near the driver side shock tower, and it appears to be simply some wires going from some green plug into 2 red LEDs. I thik the guy said that he read how to put it together on the internet, so its possible that he read it here. Im just kinda interested in finding out what this is if it is not a code reader, and how it works. Any help is always appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg

The way we S5ers check codes is cooler.

hondahater, wicked link, thx. What happens if you have multiple problems, how in the hell do decipher 5 different codes through blinking lights?

I spose your car would be royally fucked if that were the case

If you have multiple probs, the lower (most important) codes will flash. I've never ran into that, though...

This setup is actually better than the S5 lights, because the actual code sequence flashes, instead of just a light coming on...

No Rush concerts lately, Honda dude...

Takes about 30 minutes to do, once you have all of the materials you need. You even get to pick the location for the LEDs for a personalized touch

Not to hijack, but how's your car been running, Honda?

i went and got the parts to make a code checker today. then after reading that writeup on teamfc3s im confused. it says to use some resistors to protect the ecu. here is the lights im using for this
http://motormitedormancatalog.com/it...otormitedorman
will i be ok just hooking these up without resistors? in the pics above all i see is the lights with no resistors but i dont want to fry my ecu either
