Have any of yall ever noticed this about your fc?

I was detailing my 88 vert and got to looking and thought wait somethings not the same. I look at the black trim on the rear fender on both sides where the red lense is and the drivers side is flush with the body of the car however the passenger sides has a lip almost like a shade of some sort covering the top portion of the lense. I thought woah i wonder if my car has had this replaced? But i go and look throughout this forum and all the pics of fellow fcs ive got on my comp and everyones is like that! Did any of you know this? Is there a purpose or is this to just play with our minds? Anyways i thought id share my thoughts, it gave me something to think about on a boring day hehe. Can yall tell im bored?

Please search... covered countless times (I guess I need to add this to the FAQ).

The lip is to help prevent split fuel from rolling down across the lens.

Well i did search it and nothing came up. Sometimes searches dont answer everything especially when you dont know how to phrase it on the search. I dont understand how you are supposed to search something like this. Its not the typical my car is flooded question. Oh well, It seems like im not the only one who didnt know this. Thanks for answering the question though. Sorry i dont know this forum like the back of my hand

Wow they considered that eh? Thanks for the explanation Icemark! Maybe you could modify the thread title so it could come up if someone searches for something like this in the future?

somewhat related... my car has been leaking gas/oil from the gas flap area so i got a new cap and it still leaks. if you take off your cap and look in there you can see like holes in the funnelish thing to go into the tank, when i pour premix oil in it goes into those holes so i figure they are like overflow holes that lead into the tank. is that overflow leaking out of the car when i drive it or do you think i got a bad cap somehow?
