Has anyone taken off the brake gaurds?

Has anyone taken off the brake gaurds?
I was wondering if I should take them off or not.. they look like alot of the cooling air from the brake cooling ducts will just flow past the brake disc because of that... make sense?
if not, what are other things I can do to help aid cooling the brakes (the front ones, anyways)
