Question Has anyone replaced the oil seals on the differential

I have tranny fluid leaking from the the front of the differential where the output shaft connects. I looked it up in the FSM and it has a section on replacement of the output shaft and companion flange oil seals. It looks like this is where the leak is.

Well anyways of course the FSM makes this look really hard and it lists i think 2 SST's to use. I just wanna know from those that have done this how hard it is and what tools can be used in place of these SST's

Thanks.

I think your talking about the companion flange oil seal. The seal is easy to replace. Just get under there, and you'll see there is no rocket science to it. First drain the fluid. Get the exhaust out of the way. Then, remove the 4 nuts and bolts that hold the driveshaft to the companion flange. Next, remove the larger nut, and washer. (I used an inpact here, came right off). Then pull the companion flange out, and you'll see the seal. Pull it out and replace with the new one. Reverse order for install. Refill fluid.

What about all the stuff underneath it theres like a huge crossmember looking thing that is attached to the frame. Theres quite a lot of things underneath the LSD.
Im going to get it on a lift and go crazy with the impact i guess to get all that crap off.

But the main thing i was concerned about was getting the seal off without those special tools.
