has anyone modded their S5 Air Flow Sensor?

has anyone modded their Air Flow Sensor on the S5 NA (turbo the same?) to be bigger in diameter then it currently is? if you look at th estock one its tube is smaller before it gets to the actual sensor part. i was under the hood the other day and though maybe i can gain a few extra horses if i were to cut that and have the engine get more air, since that looks liek the smallest part thru wich the air has to go thru. now if i cut that to where it diffuses into the bigger diameter and put my air filter up and later on that pipe will i mess up the air flow sensors readings since there will be more air passign thru and i donno what type of a sensor it is. if it reads pressure then it knows how thick the pipe is and from that it knows how much air is entering the engine. and if i have now a bigger diameter pipe it wont read properly. if its a that measures air flow then no matter how big the pipe it shoudl know how much air goes thru? am i right ? correct me if i am wrong please

It actually uses that to cause somewhat of a restriction, and it also has a bypass in it (that little arm looking thing coming off the side near the front, if you look in it you'll see a tiny hole right before the plunger) There's a screw under a cap that's almost impossible to get off that lets you adjust how much it bypasses. I think if you were to remove this you wouldn't get quite as much restriction, but that's just what I think. Though, I don't think there's really much to be gained from modifying the air flow meter unless you have some extreme mods. And no, the NA and TII air flow meters are not the same.

Re: has anyone modded their S5 Air Flow Sensor?

If you have a close look at the cross-section of the AFM on page F2-80 of the 89 FSM, you'll see why it's impossible to do what you suggest.

I tried to post this pic, but the forum's not letting me attach pics at the moment. Anyone know what that's all about?

******Anyone know what that's all about?******* The pics? Yes. They have been conspiring against me to keep me from posting jpgs. My doctor says I'm paranoid but he's just a part of the conspiricy. I could type better if I could just get this jacket off. In other words *got me, I don't know why*
