Has anyone made their own input shaft front cover gasket?

Has anyone made their own input shaft front cover gasket?

My transmission front cover is leaking a bit and figured i should replace the gasket. Atkins is the only one who sells it now. Discontinued everywhere else. Has onyone made their own gasket with gasket paper or rtv sealant? Its an 89 s5 transmission

What gasket are you looking at bud?

The S5 service manual shows both the turbo and non-turbo manual transmissions as sealed with rtv. There is of course the shaft seal that is pressed into the respective bell housings.

you might try the miata one FE50-16-225A, or the cheaper NC miata one RF01-16-225

the 2007-2015 miata gets rid of the gasket, so that is an option too

@j9fd3s thats the one! Thanks. I didnt kbow these were interchangable.

@j9fd3s im finally getting this gasket replaced. Do I just cut the excess gasket with a blade once it's installed.



i also noticed that the miata gasket does not cover the right side. There are two holes the gasket wont cover.

you probably do want to trim the excess gasket, and then you will want a little sealant on the stuff it doesn't cover

so I trimmed the gasket and used sealant for the remaining area. Documenting if anyone else orders the same gasket.
I also replaced the input shaft since I was going to open it up. Added high temp gasket maker. Let cure for an hour then tighten to spec. 19 ft lbs also add blue threadlock to the bolts. My bolts were loose which was why it was leaking a bit.


dont lose the adjustment shim. Install the same way. Although i think it wont matter which way you install but just install the same way for good measure.


I will report how if it holds up after motor is reinstalled. Im sure once it fully cures, that it wont leak.
