If you are talking about removing the actual bumper behind the stock skin, i have heard a few people have done it ti put large FMICs in/

I think it is a VERY bad idea.. If you get in a front end collision, you will destroy your FMIC and alot more and most definatly screw up the frame..

i seem to think that the actual bumper is made out of some thick plastic or something. i had my bumper cover off once and it wasnt metal, or so i think. i may be wrong, that was a while back. anyways, when i put in a FMIC i will cut through it if i can and have a corresponding hole cut in the bumper cover to allow more air to hit the intercooler

Yes, it is there to absorb energy, same with the styrofoam.. If you remove it all of the energy will be absorbed into the frame..

=NOT GOOD.

thats why i wanna keep mine. so i can keep a lil bit of structral safety. i know id lose a little bit by cutting through it. but it would still be there and that would help out i think.

that styrofoam doesn't do a WHOLE lot (in my opinion anyhow), I mean sure it absorbs impact, but mostly small impacts.. if you're in a good accident, you're SOL anyhow

But doing it to improve airflow? No.. you'll screw up the aerodynamics of the car.. my '90 TurboII just about floats at high speeds because it doesn't have the front splitter

It's thick fiberglass and the styrofoam is there in case someone leans on it. It won't dent the plastic and it should bounce back. With it out, it may not which will seem cheap.

all of the posts above are correct. don't remove the foam or whatever is behindthe bumper cover / faciea.

and BTW, if your ever in an accident, your insurance company may NOT cover you because you modified your crash protection / sfty equip.

Not good!
