Try to manually poen the sunroof by using an alan wrench. The port is in the middle of the ceiling between the sunroof hole and the rear glass. Most likely, the one side is either gummed up and jammed, or the cable is broken. If you feel the teeth skipping when you try to open it, I'd say jammed. If theres no movement on the one side, and no skipping in the movement, you have a broken cable. You might be able to push the stuck side open by hand while you crank the other side.

you may have to take the whole damn thing out of the car. This is a bitch. I had 3 hard tops before the 2 verts (I have a vert now). One of my FCs did what you are describing. Problem was the tracks that the sunroof feeds through corrodes, get gummed up with dirt and ****. What I eventually did was, I removed the entire sunroof from the car. That means taking down part of the head liner, and I think there's like four size say 14mm maybe larger bolts that come out then you actually drop the whole thing down in the car and pull it out one of the doors. Then with it out, you can remove the top of the sunroof itself...the sheet metal. Next, clean the and the cables with tons of WD 40...maybe brake parts cleaner if you need that. there's a tube one each side that the cable feeds through that directs it 90 degrees toward the sunroof motor. Chances are good that you will find your problem there. It does not take much crud in those tubes to keep the cables from moving freely. And, the tracks also get gummed up and will require some cleaning. After you're done, I'd recommend that you keep an eye on the tracks and spray with a shot of WD 40 say once a month...not to lube, but rather to clean out any gritty stuff...take a towel to wipe the tracks clean.
Sorry, that's the only sure way to get that damn thing open again.
