Question Has anyone done a TID mod with a stock airbox?

Has anyone done a TID mod with a stock airbox? I have a bad Turbo Inlet Duct (TID) and would like to fabricate an economical replacement. I found threads on the TID mod using the search engine, but they all used a cone-type filter. The car is an '87 Turbo and it's a bit of a beater, so I'm not too interested in the expensive intake systems.

Aw c'mon

Go to Lowe's or Home Depot, and buy:

2"-3" Heavy rubber reducer
45 deg bend PVC pipe, with one end "small" and the other end "bigger" (you'll know)
4"-3" rubber reducer

Total cost: ~$20 (and that's high!)

Then go to any speed shop and buy a K&N-type cone filter with a "clamp-able" 3" outlet.

Total cost: ~$30

It's worth it. And once you get all the parts in one place, it'll be painfully obvious how they fit together There's really no use in trying to keep the stock airbox - it's crap, really.

That's right the parts from home depot are cheap. And if you don't want to spend the money on a K&N there are lots of lower quality and cheaper cone filters that will work.

It will accually cost more to get it to work with the stock airbox as you'll have a lot more work to do to get it to make it back to the stock location.

Ok, so if you the TID mod with a stock emissions system. How do you do it? I have the stock BOV and that vacuum line that is coming from the purge control system going into my stock TID. How would I plumb those with the Lowe's mod

Just drill a hole and put em in with some RTV? Also would I just install a little baby filter for the airpump intake?

Ok, ok. I get the idea. I'll do it . . . . damnit. However, what is the 4-3" adapter for? I've read the threads on this mod before and they didn't mention that piece. Won't i need an adapter for the afm (square to 3" round)? if so, where do i get one of those for cheap. i'm not as much of a cheap-*** as it seems, it's just that the car only cost us $750 so we're trying to keep things in proportion as much as possible.

wankel7: here's a link on the mod (looks like one of the guys maintained his emissions system).
