Hard hesitation in '89 TII (Not 3800RPM related)
Guys,
'89 TII with 45,000 miles
Starts / Idles / Boosts / Runs perfectly except a very occasional hard hesitation. Feels like the engine shuts off for a split second. This has happened maybe 5 time in about 2000 miles. It has happened at varied RPM (not 3800 RPM related), in fact, most of time it has happened below 3000 RPM. It has also happened at light to med. throttle positions only (never at WOT). The car is 100% stock / original. Any ideas?

check your air box to make sure that the filter seal hasn't melted all over the place... my car hesitated reaaallll bad because that junk got all in my AFM and clogged it up. Made the door stick.

i experienced what you are talking about with my 91 T2...my TPS was wayyyyyyy shot. I would give it gas at 2000rpm and it would fee like i literally SLAMMED on the brakes...
put in a new TPS and it was perfect again...
check the codes first...it might not be the TPS at all... tutorial at http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/codes.html
when my TPS went bad it gave a code...give that a shot...

sounds just like my tps issue. If you've got a decent scope, get the tps on that and you'll probably see the occasional spike in the graph as you sweep from none to full throttle. If no scope, multimeter the throttle sensore input to the ecu while driving, and you'll probably see the voltage drop wildly as the car hesitates. Mine got worse over time, so in the end it only took a 10 minute drive to get it to hesitate for the multimeter... at first it was just like you describe.

i adjusted mine by turning on the car lettin it warm up...puttin the probes from the multimeter into the back of the connector that comes from the tps
put the red probe into the redwire (look down the connector and there should be a red wire) and put the black probe into the black wire..
the connector looks like this right?
o o dont use the wire at the bottom of the connector

now you can leave the car running or whatever keep it to the ACC if you like. And then adjust the screw that is ontop of the spring right in front of the dynamic chamber. Where the throttle cable is connected to. Adjust the screw until u hit .95 at normal operating temperature.
