well i like all my cars to be custom to me so i always buy cars for cheap that need some work. and i found another 87 gxl for 1000. that has minor body damage. body damage i can fix and the rest of the money i can use for whatever goodies i want to add on. and it will definitely be custom painted

Yeah, you have to threaten insurance companies or they won't give you ****.
When I totalled my bike because of a left turning car they wanted to give me low trade in for it. I told them high retail, and that's what I got because that's what the bike was worth. I also charged them a fee to have another bike, exactly like mine shipped to me.
It's their obligation to replace your vehicle, in the same exact shape, or as close to it as possible. They have to cover all costs. I had a rare bike, so in order to get another one it would have to be shipped cross country. I had printouts of Kelly Blue Book and NADA retail values for my bike, as well as printouts of various ads for used bikes of the same make, model, and year.
I also charged them for three days off of work to recover from the wreck, as well as pain and suffering, and money to replace all the clothing that was destroyed.
Of course, the accident wasn't my fault, and I was negotiating with the other person insurance. I could have got more money, I only charged them $50 a day for the vacation days I recieved but later found out that I could have charged them $60/hour. Oops.
Overall I made a profit on the bike because of all the extras I made them pay me.

When you're dealing with insurance companies, you just have to have your **** together and be firm. As much as I love the convertible, every once in a while I wish somebody would hit me and total it out, or steal it. I'd easily make a $3000 profit on the car. But I only feel that way when it's giving me problems.

Tripp87gxl,
Congrats on all the moolah, are you still going to get to keep the old wrecked car? You could always find a junker and transfer the drivetrain over and sell that car for a few K, then get a turbo, or stick with the reliability of the NA.
