GX Model RX-7's the good and the bad?

I am thinking about picking up a 1987 GX RX-7, me and my buddy took it for a ride a few weeks ago but I wish I payed more attention to it but instead I was worried for my life since he was going very fast. anyways what is the difference between a GX and any other model this one dosent have power windows or power locks, I cant remember for the LIFE of me if it had Air conditioning or ABS.. he is asking $1800 bucks cdn for it but I am going to go there and waive $1200 bucks in his face untill he accepts that. anyone have siggestions on what I should say to help bring down the price? anyways here is a picture of it that I took when i was there

BTW when I get it I am going to strip it down, take the exterior apart, sand it down, patch any small hail dents with bondo and send it out to get a nice black paint job or if I dont feel like changing the whole color of the car I will get Metallic silver. And I already found a RX-7 Turbo parts car and I am going to get the Hood, Mirrors and maby front and back bumper and turbo spoiler off it just because they look nice!

See http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/buy1.htm . Print the page, bring it with you when you go look at the car. It will scare the seller.

GX good points:
-light
-power mirrors
-no A/C

GX bad points
-4 lug wheels
-sunroof
-no power windows (I hate manual windows, and the power units weigh about the same)
-lame sound system
-power steering

The GX does not have ABS. It is basically the "luxery base" model.

wait, I dont get what you just said about these two things, The bad things about the GX is the Power Steering and the Sunroof? Can you please explain why they are bad on GX models?

if you are talking about weight issues (Because you said it is good that it does not have A/C) that dosent bother me, I have too many speeding tickets to be racing people anyways.. lol

and I can fix that lame sound system issue.. I have 2 12" 500 Watt subs and a huge box sitting here waiting for a car to be installed in..

I hate power steering, and not only are the sunroofs troublesome, but they put a lot of weight up high where you don't want it.

FWIW, I simply added power windows to my base, and it came factory equipped without a sunroof (rare) or power steering. I'm happy.

I am going to add power windows also, since the car is getting a new paint job I am going to rip the doors off of the RX-7 parts car because the current doors have a little rust and that meatl piece that is on the outside running along the bottom of the window sill is rusted out.

Don't know if was just the 88 models, but mine came with AC. The manual windows aren't that big of a pain, mine go up and down at the slightest touch. Also, with subs in there, I doubt you're worrying about weight, so go ahead and spoil yourself with a sunroof and power steering, its worth it in the long run.

The only true bad point are the 4 lug wheels, that means no TII rim swap for you.

heck, if the parts car is a big pile, I will replace the lug wheels, I hear thats a big challenge, but if not I will look for some good aftermarket rims that will fit 4 lug.

gx

Also... The lowest model .. The SE didn't have a LSD. I don't think that GX does either. But i've got the 5 lug conversion + Brakes for ya if you want to switch over. Even got a set of turbo wheels.

WOW only 140,000 km's that's not really that much travel for a car "that old" that's only a little over 9000 km's a year (5800 mi). I'd say go for it, as long as the car ran fine.

The trim under the window is easy to replace, though expensive. Each side is $45 at a Mazda dealer.

Yah I am going to waive 1200 bucks in that guy's face untill he accepts it.. ok.. my parents are looking at some Mustangs and early 90's corvettes for me (Dont worry it wont heppen they are all talk and no show).. for some fuggin reason they want me to SAVE my money and they think the RX7 will be a Money pit but they are going to go out and spend 8-10 grand on a car for me? that makes no damn sense.. but jesus when this car is done it will ahve cost me like 2500 bucks total including the car becuase I am getting some amazing deals with the paint job/body work. and GET this the other reason is that that they dont like mazda that much because it is a japanese car and they think no one will be able to work on it. But my dad found a Mazda Miata in the paper for 8500 bucks and he is gonna call the guy.. I am like YOU F-ING RETARD! Who do you think makes Mitata's.. GM? NO! MAZDA!!.. Jesus my parents are some F-ed up people.. lol sometimes I just dont get them, I say It HAS to be RWD, and 5 Speed Manual so he looks at a Automatic Cavalier and says HHMM this is nice!.. AHH!!
