Guage cluster went out. Need help pin ponting problem.!

OK. I have not fixed this yet. HEres the situation. EVerything worked fine. I swapped out a tranny one day. And that same day the guages went out. ALl the guages on the cluster went out besides the Speedo. SO Fuel, oil press, boost,Water Temp,Tach stop working. Also along with this. My A/C / Heater control panel went out. Times 3 My Dummy warning cluster went out. SO NO buzzer over 7,000 rpms or when low on water etc. I tried replacing the dummy cluster for an older S4 N/a and the only thing that started working again was the CLOCK. (the cluster was different because i even has to change the plastic surround due to its difference)

I Checked fuses. They are fine.

ANy suggestions on where to start.

1. Quit being so damn impatient.

2. Check your meter fuse.

Yes, chill out. I know it's really annoying, but stressing yourself out will get you nowhere. Check all fuses first, then check your wiring.

fuses are fine. The part of the wire harness where it goes to the starter is in bad shape. ANd i was pushing a little bit on the wires on that part of the harness.

ANything important there?

Well, depending on how bad a shape that your wires are, you might want to fix that. You could start an electrical fire, and you wouldn't want that to happen!

It is definately an electrical problem, you also might want to check all the solders in your CPU. It is located to the left of the fuse box by the drivers kick panel.

Most likely no. Those pieces should still be good, it's just the electrical connection going to them that is bad. There are write-ups on how to clean your grounds. Even if that doesn't fix the problem, it will prevent others from occuring.

You worked on the transmission. The METER fuse supplys power to one of the wires on the transmission. What more can I say other than the METER fuse also makes the combination meter gauges work.

I went from an s4 tranny to an s5 tranny. The s4 tranny had 4 connectors on one of the tranny sensors. But the s5 had 2 connectors. so i didnt even connect that sensor. Its the sensor on the tranny furthest to the back of the car.

I checked thew meter fuse a bunch of time and it is good.

Hailers im bout to by u a plane ticket for florida to fix my car=P

I went from an S5 tranny to an S4. The sensors didn't match up, so I just spliced the appropriate wires together. I'm not 100% sure, but that sensor might be for the reverse lights. I honestly don't see how changing your transmission will jack up your gauge cluster and idiot lights.

You should hook up those sensors though, they're there for a reason. If you decide not to hook them up, at least cover up the open wiring.

^^ Yes those sensors are for reverse lights and some kind of 5th gear sensor.
so i didnt bother hooking them up.

But back to my problem what part of driver side harness has todo with the problem at hand?

Both of those are required and related to the gauges

The 5th gear (really called the Over the Top sensor) is used by the ECU to know when to switch the shift up idiot light off and for emissions profiles.

The reverse lights gets its power from the meter fuse, so if you left the wires dangling and unplugged you are probably blowing meter fuses. which,, gee power the gauages

and both are found on both S4 and S5 trannies

^^^^ so these wires are my problem then. i never connected all of them.

Do to the fact i could not figure out how to make four wires(used for S4) mate into the 2 wire plug on the s5. Geez.

ANyone done an s4 to s5 tranny swap?I will be searching, but any hints would be nice.
