GTUS transmission VS T2 tranny. HELP!

Hey guys, I have a GTUS and am thinking about doing a T2 swap. I know the rear ends are the same with the 4.30 gear and stuff but will my GTUS tranny hold up with a turbo engine... what would be the benifits and or downfalls of this setup? what exactly is the difference in the transmissions? also, what kind of aftermarket transmissions are there? and how are they setup or compare to the stock transmissions? thanks

Other than the first 4 gear ratios there is nothing in common at all between the M type tranny from a GTUs and a R type tranny as found in the Turbo models.

The R type tranny is a considerably stronger tranny and even found on some Ford Trucks

Sorry to break it to you, but the differentials aren't the same either! The GTUs uses a N/A diff with a 4.3 ring & pinion!

There have been people that kept the NA tranny with a turbo swap, but its not a good idea. It might last for a while but will almost undoubtedly break due to the extra power made by the turbo. If you are already spending the time and money to swap in a turbo, do it right and get a turbo tranny.

yes it is with a custom driveshaft or I have also heard that a auto driveshaft will work but you need to add about 1.5" to it or space it from the rear end again just what I heard. Also to do this from my understanding you will need to put your s5 n/a flywheel on the turbo engine.

If you use a turbo tranny, you HAVE to use the turbo flywheel, just make sure the flywheel matches the series (or counterweight, if you decide on an aftermarket).

That driveshaft (if you can't find a local shop) can be found at http://www.mazdatrix.com.
