GTUs bastardization (hate me later)
Well, one too many overheats at the racetrack has rendered the engine in my 1988 GTUs completely useless. Since a new one costs $1500 or so, and a rebuild not that much less, a gearhead friend of mine has proposed a crazy idea.
He's come across a 1998 Ford Mustang with the aluminum V6 (not the V8, but still more than big enough) for $1k (the owner rolled the car over). He wants to pop the entire driveline, motor and all, into the RX, for giggles.
This'll probably be the first of several posts (spaced over the coming months) as progress unfolds. The GTUs had already been turned into a purely track car by the previous owner, complete with gutted interior, rollcage, and massively trimmed accessories list (it has fan vents that work still, I think that's about it). The car is probably down around 2400lbs or less by now, and I think having an aluminum-block racing V6 in such a tiny go-cart like car would be a hoot. 250 ft/lbs of torque without turbo lag anyone?
Any comments or helpful tips from anyone who's done something like this before would be greatly appreciated!

If you can get 250 ft/lb of torque out of a V6 mustang engine, by all means, go ahead, lol. The V8 only made around 240, and thats at the crank. Can you say expensive internal mods?

Yeah, building a v6 with over 175 ft/lbs at the wheels is actually pretty expensive. First you have to go with the Eagle H-beam connecting rods and forged pistons, then you have to rework the whole valvetrane, which is easily $2k right there. Honestly, it's about the same or maybe a little less to build a carbed PP 13b as compared. Don't waste your money and time putting in the boinger, just keep it original or modify it. Porting templates don't cost that much...

So to start with... there was no 88 GTUs.
The originator of this thread is barking out his butt on his whole post. Why would anyone put a heavy lame Ford OHV V6 with about the same power as the stock non turbo in is beyond me (that Ford V6 was only 150 HP).
Now I could see if he was power crazy and wanted the V8 or the newer Duratec V6 (that at least has 200 hp)... but the old mustang OHV V6... hell not even secretaries wanted that motor. It was for grannies that wanted better mileage than the 12 MPG that V8 gave them.
Furthermore if he really wanted info he would have posted in the proper section; the Other Engine Conversions section of the board. He just trying to get a flame war started here.
So thread closed. If you really want help in a non rotary engine install post in the Other engine conversions, not here with the BS thread that was started.
