Got It Finished... 4 Gauge Idiot Light Pod!!!!!!

Finally Got it Done after about 75 hours of toil....

Here is the Pod in "skeleton" form.. I made the structure out of 1/4 Balsa the way you construct an airplane fuselage with bulkheads and stringers.. stringers are 1/16 inch sheet. One pattern was cut out for each "rib" and then modified for placement. the faces are the size of a jar i had laying around.. Everything was superglued gelled onto the idiot light surround and then strenghthened with JB-weld after construction was complete

Here it is getting its first layer of 'glass, It got three layers of flex weave in all.

After the glass it was covered with Ultra-lite bondo.. sanded and shaped and tested for fitment and then it got black primer and spot filler

Finally, I painted it with a Matte Black Enamel to match the other black plastic in the dash... it really does (assuming I've armor-alled the dash and not have it pathetically dusty like it is now!)

GEEZE I am SOOOOOO glad to be done with that Project!!

Whadaya think..

And before the Idot Lite preservation mongers start......

Idiot lights are being converted to LED's and are in the process of being dropped to the blank space below the stereo.. Got a lot of the wiring done, but my stereo doesn't like the new metal holder i bought for it.. so i'm going to have to buy a new install kit because the last one has a hole in it for the Fuel Pressure Gauge and I want it to look clean as possible

Little bubbly in the back for my tastes.. maybe if it had been smoothed out with just the 4 guage openings in the front... either way tho.. fantastic job.. i'm impressed, that's alot of time invested.

Interesting, very clean work. Did you relocate your idiot lights or just not worrying about them?

dude congrats thats an excelent job , i think it looks rad, my only gripe would be to have the right side maybe face a little more towards the driver and close in like a **** pit =D, but that wouldnt fill the dummy light space very well so im sure youd considered that. all in all a very very good job

It may look a bit more bubbly than it should because I made it big enough to fit 2 5/8 gauges also if i decide to switch to those

Yeah.. I angled them as much as i could towards the driver without having to offset the whole thing to keep the bodies of the gauges inside the dimensions of the idiot light surround.

and.. thats one of the reasons the sides buldge out...... the gauges are in at an angle.. I had to buldge out the sides so that the *** end of the gauges would fit!!!!

Thats pretty neat. I was planning on doing a 3 guage pod to put where my A/C Vents are in the middle console.

You could do that in very much the same way... just use the AC Vent surround as a starting point.

I thought about that.. but, in cold weather, i like the heat to come out of there!!!!

Looks good. Only thing I would change is to have the openings angled towards the driverside slightly.
