Thumbs up Grounding Works!

Greetings,

I'm a short-time lurker, third-time poster. A friend and I performed most of the grounding modifcations including the ignition coils, battery, ECU and alternator. My 3800-4000 hesitation is gone and to my further delight, the horn now works (yay). Just wanted to post some positive feedback to all the nice people giving out reliability tips for FC's and also encouragement for those who are debating whether or not these easy modifications are worth the small effort.

Thanks.

In the engine bay for grounding the coils and battery etc, I used a really thick wire, I believe it was 8 guage. Similar to monster wire in thickness. For grouding the ECU I used 10 guage wire. Naturally, you don't want to use really small wire for things like the coils because there's a lot of power involved. But at the same time you want to use cable that you can actually bend and get a ring connector on, lol.

Grounds get no respect.

They are black, underneith stuff, & dirty.

But they carry all the load of the bright shinny red wires, plus they have to be good enough so the low voltage - low current ECU signals are clean & reliable.

Umm? The entire ignition system doesn't use more than 10 amps... You can run ten amps on 16ga if you wanted to..., at least for <5ft

hey kevin, that write up is great, but i was also wondering, does the ground to the wiring harness take care of the one to the ECU?

IF you traced the harness, you'd find that it goes to the ecu eventually. When you cut and reground into the 4 ground wires at the ecu, you're doing the same thing.
