Grounding and Fuel pump rewiring Q

I bought 18gauge speaker wire and 12gauge hookup wire. Will these work for grounding the battery as well as rewiring the fuel pump? (I have all other things needed)

12 gauge will be fine for rewiring the fuel pump. 18 gauge is too thin for grounding the battery (unless you are just running spare grounds to the boost/pressure sensor and ECU).

K. I was planning on using the speaker wire only for the fuel pump rewire. Would the 18 gauge be ok for that? Or should I just take it back and get a 16 or look for a 12 in speaker as well?

18 gauge is just as bad as stock for the fuel pump. In fact, it is probably worse since I think the stock fuel pump wires are 16 gauge.

First, don't use speaker wire. It's unnecessary for this and more expensive then regular hookup wire. Go to an electronics shop and get a spool of 25 feet of black and 25 feet of red 12 gauge. Use it for your fuel pump rewire.

If you are replacing battery grounds, then you need to look at 4 gauge and bigger. Don't buy any of this stuff at a stereo shop because you'll pay 10x as much.

If you're doing Dale Clark's fuel pump rewire (moving the resistor/relay to the back), cheap 2-core speaker wire is perfect to use for the relay control wire just as described in the write-up. It's easy to run and it's easy to identify each wire. The 12GA is only needed for the feed from the battery to the relay at the back, and a short section for the new ground wire. You don't need to buy 50 feet (unless you like to keep a supply, which I totally understand ).

That seems like massive overkill to me. The 8GA wire I used is rated at 0.0025ohm/metre and max 56A, and I added several of them. The current passing through those wires is nowhere near what those wires can handle.

EDIT: Oops, I see you said replacing battery grounds, not adding extra ones.

I would be adding extra ones. So I guess I will be on the look out for either 10 or 8gauge. Thanks again for all of the help from everyone!

I've never done the "Dale Clark" rewire. About the only time I've rewired fuel pumps are for standalones, in which case we just run two power wires (12V, ground) to the pump directly.

If you are just adding extra grounds, then 8, 10 or 12 gauge is fine. Makje sure your existing grounds are in good shape as well.
