GROUNDED BLACK BULLET CONNECTOR, need help
Hey all, Was TRYING to follow the instructions in the FSM for setting the timing on my vert. Well instead of grounding using the green wire, I screwed up and used the black bullet connector. Now I only have like 8 volts coming to my leading coil and its not sparking. Have I totally screwed my ECU or have I almost toasted a wire somewhere. Please help! Its an 89 S5, with auto trans.

I'll check the fuse but the car still runs. Wouldnt the car not start at all if the fuse were blown? The battery is fine. All the lights burn and all that. Its limping along running off the trailing coil. Im getting 12v to the trailing coil but only 8v to the leading coil. The leading coil isnt doing squat. I totally unhooked the plug wires and it runs the same as when they are hooked up....revs real slow and doesnt have any power. The leading coil also wont make my timing light blink. I guess maybe it needs the full 12v or maybe its not getting a signal from the ECU????? It ran alot better before I tried to time it....cause the leading was actually working then...lol.

GROUNDED BLACK BULLET CONNECTOR, need help!
In attempting to set my ignition timing according to the FSM, I made a major bonehead move. Got everything right except for the part about grounding the single wire GREEN connector. I grounded the BLACK bullet connector near my leading coil, which turns out is a diagnostic tachometer hookup. Now I'm only getting 8V to my leading coil on the black wire and my leading coil isnt firing. The car still starts and runs but is limping along on the trailing coil. Where should I start? What have I likely screwed up?

Any reason you have multiple threads on this???
Threads merged. And stop bumping. It is against the forum rules to bump. Please read the rules sticky thread at the top of this section. Also when starting threads use real descriptions. Lame *** descriptions like "help" or "I screwed up" will get you next to zero help.
Do you still have the wire grounded??? If so un-ground it.
You probably damaged either the coil or coil driver in the ECU. I would susepct both would need to be replaced.

Well, my first post wasnt getting much response. I figured the "lame ***" title of the first post wasnt grabbing much attention so I posted the second one. Can I edit titles? I just want to get my car running. And when you or whoever merged the threads you stuck me with the lame *** title instead of my second one. As far as the bumping thing goes, Ive noticed it in quite a few threads. When in Rome....
Of course I dont still have the wire grounded. I obviously realized...after the fact of course...that it was the wrong wire. So Ill start with ECU. Thanks

there I revised your title for you.
Bumps are not allowed here. You'll only see newbies that don't know better doing it in the 2nd gen tech section.
Of course as soon as an admin or mod see's the bumps they are deleted, so they generally don't serve any purpose anyway.
