I have noticed the same thing on my 89 vert. My car has gone into limp mode twice and it was very hot and humid both times. I got an error code of 8 (airflow meter) both times and replaced my MAF after the first time it happened last summer, but it just did it again last night. I am wondering if this bare wire amongst the wires that plug into the airflow meter could be the culprit? Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.

On all of the cars produced after Nov '86, the AFM's ground is part of a "gang" circuit that all of the 5 volt sensors share. IOW, it should not have a seperate ground wire to the chassis from its plug...

Is this "strap" a braided cable, or is it just a regular-looking wire?

Why, Wayne. It's all part and parcel of the Advanced Grounding Mod. Don't you read the FAQ? And just what does IOW stand for? Sort of like IOU but in this case* I OWE the WORLD*????????

Oh, pooh, I forgot about the AGM (advanced grounding mod). Doesn't that mod also encompass a lightning rod install on the antenna?...

For the flyboys that didn't learn this in boot camp, IOW means "in other words"
